When I began running cross country and track at the University of Florida, I began to take the sport more seriously than ever before. I started to research collegiate and professional meet results, how to train for certain events, secrets to staying hydrated and even ways to prevent or treat injuries related to the sport. This is when I realized how invaluable online communications were. When I talked to my teammates and other running enthusiasts, they were always online looking at competition photos, watching videos from meets or reading athlete blogs and biographies.
One of my career goals is to become a sports reporter. More than ever before, marketable sports reporters need to be equipped with what I call “tools for success.” These tools enable the reporters to not only talk and write about sports, but to take their communication further by showing audiences as well.
In Journalists’ Toolkit 1, I hope to gather “tools for success” which will help me become a better storyteller and a better sports journalist as well. I am looking forward to learning how to gather and edit audio, photography and video for online media. It is also my goal to become more aware of the latest trends in online journalism.
